A partir daí, Simão começou seguir Jesus.

Historical Data: Saint Peter was born in Bethsaida, a small village on the shores of Lake Genesaré, or Sea of Galilee, in northern Israel. His birth name was Simon. When he met Jesus, Simon was married and lived in Capernaum, an important city on the shores of Lake Genesaré. Saint Peter was a fisherman and owned a boat, in partnership with his brother. Both worked on the Sea of Galilee, a freshwater lake formed by the Jordan River, in the Galilee region of Israel. When Jesus met Simon, he said a phrase that would change his life: You will be a fisherman of men. From there, Simon began to follow Jesus. At one point, Simon confessed to Jesus: You are the Messiah, the Son of God. Therefore, Jesus said that, from that moment on, his name would be Peter, Cephas, Kephas in Aramaic, a word that means Stone. When Jesus gave St. Peter the mission of being the leader of the Church, he said to him: You are a stone, and on that stone I will build my church. Pedro was a simple man, outgoing, he spoke without thinking. On the other hand, he was used to the difficulties of a fisherman’s life. But after three years of following Jesus, and after receiving the power of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, Peter became a great leader, an apostle, a word that means sent. After Pentecost, Peter became an evangelizer everywhere he went. His authority as the leader of the nascent Church has always been respected and attested to by various Church documents. It was never questioned. In fact, St. Peter assumed the keys of the Church and his successors, the Popes, are continuants of his authority and mission given by Jesus Christ himself. For fearlessly preaching the Gospel, St. Peter was arrested several times. Once, in Jerusalem, an angel of God released him from prison by passing several guards. After evangelizing and animating the Church in various places, Peter went to Rome. There, he led the Church that always grew, despite persecutions. Thus, the Romans discovered his whereabouts, arrested him and condemned him to death on the cross for being the leader of the Church of Jesus Christ. In the last moment, Saint Peter asked to be crucified upside down, for not believing himself worthy of dying as his Master. His request was granted and he was killed in what is now the Vatican. His remains are on the altar of St. Peter’s Church in Rome.
