Você conhece a história de São Miguel? Guardião Celeste e Príncipe Guerreiro são alguns nomes pelos quais São Miguel Arcanjo é conhecido. Este arcanjo está na mais alta hierarquia dos anjos, e faz parte do grupo dos “sete espíritos” citados no livro do Apocalipse. São Miguel em hebraico significa “aquele que se parece com Deus”, é considerado o chefe supremo do exército celestial, o grande combatente e vencedor das forças do mal. Também é conhecido como o Arcanjo da justiça e arrependimento. Além disso, recebe o título de defensor da Igreja Católica.
No Acervo do Museu de Arte Sacra de Mato Grosso possui uma imagem deste Arcanjo, datada do século XVIII, que fica em destaque no trono do altar neoclássico são provenientes da antiga igreja do Senhor Bom Jesus de Cuiabá. Trata-se de uma peça com traços fundamentalmente barroco, talhada em madeira maciça, com os olhos de vidro e pigmentação policromada. A escultura usa trajes militares, e é posta sobre um pedestal que figura nuvens. São Miguel Arcanjo encontra-se em posição de ataque, com o braço direito erguido em uma empunhadura e o esquerdo esticado à frente em defesa, remetendo à imagem na qual o arcanjo perfura o dragão com uma lança, derrotando-o aos seus pés.
Este Arcanjo é considerado padroeiro dos motoristas de ambulância e paramédicos.
