Dados Históricos: Peça do séc. XVIII, do acervo da Catedral do Senhor Bom Jesus de Cuiabá. O tocheiro é o suporte para a vela do Círio Pascal. O Círio Pascal é vela branca que representa a Luz de Cristo. Esta vela é usada nas liturgias de Igrejas Cristãs Ocidentais (Igreja Católica Romana, Comunhão Anglicana, Igrejas Luteranas, dentre outras). Um novo Círio Pascal é aceso a cada ano, na Páscoa, e é usado durante o Tempo Pascal. Ao longo do ano a vela é acesa em ocasiões especiais, dependendo da tradição, como batismos e funerais. O termo pascal vem da palavra Pessach, que em hebraico significa Páscoa, e relaciona-se com o mistério pascal da salvação. O Círio Pascal é a maior vela no espaço de culto para as congregações que o utilizam.
Na maioria dos casos, atualmente, o Círio porta os seguintes símbolos: A cruz central (símbolo da redenção), a letra grega alfa (Α) (Cristo é princípio). a letra grega ômega (Ω) (Cristo é o fim), o ano em curso (A Ele o tempo e a eternidade), o (Chi) Χ e o (Rho) ρ (letras gregas) que são o anagrama de Cristo (Χριστός), cinco (5) grãos de incenso que são inseridos no Círio durante a Vigília pascal, eles representam as cinco chagas de Cristo na Cruz: 1. A coroa de espinhos, 2. O prego da mão direita, 3. O prego da mão esquerda, 4. O prego dos pés, e 5. O corte feito no lado direito do seu peito, por um romano, com a lança para ver se ele estava morto.
Na Igreja Medieval, as Velas Pascais podiam ter dimensões extraordinárias. O Círio Pascal da Catedral de Salisbury chegou a ter 11 metros de altura. Atualmente a vela é de, aproximadamente, 5 a 10 centímetros de diâmetro e 1 metro de altura.

The Paschal Candle is a white candle that represents the Light of Christ. This candle is used in the liturgies of Western Christian Churches (Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Communion, Lutheran Churches, among others). A new Easter candle is lit every year at Easter, and is used during Easter time. Throughout the year the candle is lit on special occasions, depending on tradition, such as baptisms and funerals. The term paschal comes from the word Pesach, which in Hebrew means Easter, and is related to the paschal mystery of salvation. Círio Pascal is the largest candle in the worship space for the congregations that use it.
In most cases, today, Círio bears the following symbols: The central cross (symbol of redemption), the Greek letter alpha (Α) (Christ is principle). the Greek letter omega (Ω) (Christ is the end), the current year (To Him time and eternity), the (Chi) Χ and the (Rho) ρ (Greek letters) which are the anagram of Christ ( Χριστός), five (5) grains of incense that are inserted in the Círio during the Easter Vigil, they represent the five wounds of Christ on the Cross: 1. The crown of thorns, 2. The nail of the right hand, 3. The nail of the left hand, 4. The nail of the feet, and 5. The cut made on the right side of his chest, by a Roman, with the spear to see if he was dead.
In the Medieval Church, the Easter Candles could have extraordinary dimensions. The Paschal Candle of Salisbury Cathedral was 11 meters high. Currently the candle is approximately 5 to 10 centimeters in diameter and 1 meter high.
