Historical Data: Nossa Senhora do Rosário is the Marian title presented in reference to the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to São Domingos de Gusmão in 1214 in the church of the monastery of Prouille, in which the mother of Jesus delivered the Holy Rosary to the faithful Dominican friar. Devotion to Nossa Senhora do Rosário originated with the Irish monks in the 8th century, who recited the 150 Psalms. As the laity could not read, the monks taught to pray 150 Our Father, who were later replaced by 150 Ave Marias. Thus, devotion began to spread throughout the world. The word Rosary means a bit of roses, a bouquet of roses that is offered to Our Lady. Each Ave Maria is a rose that we offer to the Mother, with love and hope. São Domingos de Gusmão, founder of the Order of Dominicans, was the great propagator of the Rosary at the beginning of the 11th century. The Church gave him the title of Apostle to the Holy Rosary. At that time there were many heretics who led the faithful away from the Catholic Church.
