Você já imaginou como deve ter sido para nossos antepassados viveram sem energia elétrica? Para a nossa sorte as velas hoje em dia só são utilizadas simbolicamente.
Esse é o caso do Tocheiro de Círio Pascal. Você já ouviu falar? O Círio Pascal é uma grande vela que simboliza tanto a ressurreição de Jesus, como também a Luz de Cristo. Esta vela é usada nas liturgias de Igrejas Cristãs Ocidentais (Igreja Católica Romana, Comunhão Anglicana, Igrejas Luteranas, dentre outras). Um novo Círio Pascal é aceso a cada ano, na Páscoa, e é usado durante o Tempo Pascal. Dependendo da tradição a vela também pode ser acesa em outras ocasiões especiais ao longo do ano, como batismos e funerais. O uso do círio pascal é anterior ao século VI. O rito de acender essa vela nasceu de um costume diário dos cristãos. Sem eletricidade, o ato de acender a luminária, ao cair da noite, se tornará um rito familiar, que trazia alegria e segurança.
O Museu de Arte Sacra de Mato Grosso conta em seu acervo com um Tocheiro Pascoal e outros tocheiros remanescente da antiga Catedral do Bom Jesus de Cuiabá, peças do século XVIII em madeira entalhada, com detalhes em douramento. Pé tri facetado com frisos achatados na base e nas laterais, além de detalhes fitomorfos em relevo.

Have you ever imagined what it must have been like for our ancestors to live without electricity? Luckily for us, candles today are only used symbolically. This is the case of The Torch of Paschal Candle. Have you heard?
The Paschal Candle is a large candle that symbolizes both the resurrection of Jesus and the Light of Christ. This candle is used in the liturgies of Western Christian Churches (Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Communion, Lutheran Churches, among others). A new Paschal Candle is lit every year at Easter, and is used during Easter Time. Depending on the tradition, the candle can also be lit on other special occasions throughout the year, such as baptisms and funerals. The use of the paschal candle dates back to the 6th century. The rite of lighting this candle was born out of a daily custom of Christians. Without electricity, the act of lighting the lamp, at nightfall, had become a family rite, which brought joy and security.
The Museum of Sacred Art of Mato Grosso has in its collection a Torch of Paschal Candle and other torches remaining from the old Cathedral of Bom Jesus de Cuiabá, 18th century pieces in carved wood, with gilded details. Tri-faceted foot with flat friezes at the base and sides, in addition to raised phytomorphic details.
